Following the announcement of the decision to build the $800m gas pipeline connecting Mount Isa to Tennant Creek to transport gas to Queensland, MITEZ engaged GHD consultants to undertake an assessment of the potential opportunities that the gas pipeline could provide as a catalyst to stimulate other industries along the pipeline corridor and in the North West Minerals Province.
The study was to identify projects as seen to be ‘low-hanging fruit’ such as know phosphate deposits west of Mount Isa and over into the Northern Territory. As an enabler to future development, the report looked at other projects that could be developed from a multi-user lateral pipeline connecting a number of sites.
Blue-sky concepts such as extending the pipeline further to the east identified the potential to generate electricity for larger scale projects such as meat processing and cotton ginning.
